Dental IT was involved at a very early stage in the planning and implementation of the IT for this new build dental practice. Endodontist, Richard Hems, largely carries out referral work and was moving from his previous practice to a dedicated specialist and referral centre.
The referral centre needed a partner to liaise between themselves and architects, Bateman Harris Partnership. A location in which to install the server cabinet had to be established, in addition to the positioning of all IT equipment from network points and PCs, to monitors and peripherals.
As a beautiful and modern new build practice, it was important to configure IT equipment appropriate not only to host their DPMS, Software of Excellence EXact, but also to integrate with extensive digital imaging and radiography hardware. This would include a Schick camera and Schick corded digital x-ray unit, along with a capture card for a live microscope feed.
Dental IT was initially responsible for migrating all the relevant software, hardware and databases from Richard’s old practice to the new infrastructure. We specified an HP server cabinet to house all IT equipment, including a rack-mounted server, UPS unit, patch panel, backup tape drive, switch and ADSL/firewall equipment.
Space was allowed in the cabinetry for all workstation hardware, and we additionally specified cabling for the second monitors; this was included at first fix so they could be hidden behind panels. Reception machines were house in special brackets for discreet storage under the desk. One laptop was specified as an additional reception machine alongside a hot spare. Finally, laser and label printers were added to the reception area, and an inkjet printer to Richard’s consultation area.
Carrying out all work without data loss or downtime, we have provided state-of-the-art technology and solutions that have formed a reliable IT infrastructure appropriate to the individual needs of the dental practice.
