The Practice

A highly respected community NHS dental practice in Leeds, Windmill Dental is a modern, recently established clinical practice. Principals, Dr Parmar and Dr Patel, became increasingly aware of the need to bring their current IT systems up to a higher standard.

IT Requirements

Dental IT audited the network and advised that the current server was not suitable for the demands of this busy, fully computerised site with EXact practice management software, and Digital Imaging (via VistaScan phosphor plate). We proposed an upgrade of RAM for the workstations, and the reinstallation of Windows 7 Pro to bring them back up to date.

Integrated Solutions

Firstly, we introduced one of our first HP ProLiant G8 (8th generation) build machines for the server. Faster and more efficient than ever, the biggest difference is their increased computing power, with far less mains power required to operate them and additional sound reduction.

Plans were made to upgrade all system software at the same time: SOE EXact, Examine Pro, and Microsoft Office. A more powerful and safe firewall provided added security, matched with a more appropriate high end switch. Carrying out all activity over a weekend, the practice experienced no disruption.

The Results

Extremely high levels of uptime and stability have been achieved since the upgrade, with Dental IT now monitoring the ongoing success of the local and remote backup systems in place. We now handle all IT management issues and upgrades, providing a platform of support for the practice on a daily basis.
