Can you introduce yourself?
I'm an apprentice and started with Dental IT in October. As I'm new I'm learning about IT and networking and enjoying it. In my spare time I like to watch films, read and spend time with family.
What's your day-to-day like at Dental IT?
Mostly I take calls from customers in need of technical support, and resolve these over the phone by remote connecting to the PC.
What makes working in the dental industry rewarding?
As we are looking after healthcare, its rewarding to know we are also helping by keeping IT working.
What makes working in the dental industry challenging?
It can be very specialist such as working with Digital Imaging equipment, that I hadn't come across before.
What has been the highlight during your time at Dental IT?
My first site visit which gave me the confidence to know I would be able to also work well on the on sites part of the job as I progress in the job.
What’s the best thing about working at Dental IT?
I work with a good team of people who I like working with, and the work is also interesting.
How has COVID-19 affected your work?
I've had to work from home a bit during the lockdown, and when I have visited sites there was a big focus on COVID. Also Dental IT helped me out when the schools closed by giving me time off to help with home schooling.
Who is your favourite customer and why?
Gary St Pierre.
What has been the hardest thing to learn in your role?
I've not yet learnt how to use PowerShell but think this will be good, but very difficult, to learn.
What do you like about working in Sheffield and Hathersage?
There are load of PC's around and when Shaun asks me to to an upgrade or build a PC it's fun tinkering through all the hardware to put it all together.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy watching films, reading and spending time with family. When the weathers sunny its nice to get outside for a walk.
What's the most exciting technology you work with?
Virtualisation.
What's the funniest query/problem you have had on the helpdesk?
I took a call that must have been a wrong number as it wasn't IT related and the caller was hardly making any sense!
What's the hardest problem you have had to work on?
Figuring out why DNS was resolving domain searches on PC's at a customers premises.
What's the longest night you have ever worked and why?
I'm not quite there yet.

I'm going to be 40 this year.
